New competition invites authors to submit AI-generated and AI-assisted novels across six genre categories, with a grand prize that includes a publishing deal
United States, 3rd Sep 2026 — The Prompty Awards, a new literary competition honoring fiction created with the help of artificial intelligence (AI), officially opened for submissions today. The awards recognize writers who are using AI not as a replacement for creativity, but as a tool for expressing it. The competition is open to established novelists, first-time authors, and everyone in between.
The awards recognize fiction across six categories: Literary Fiction, Science Fiction, Mysteries & Thrillers, Speculative Fiction, Romance, and Historical Fiction. Judges will evaluate entries on originality, storytelling, character development, craft, imagination, and the effective use of AI as part of the creative process.
“The Prompty Awards are not about proving that AI can write fiction. We already know it can,” said Hugh Taylor, the awards’ organizer. “The interesting question is what writers can create with it. Great storytelling still requires imagination. That is what we are celebrating.”
Prizes
One work will be named the Prompty Awards Grand Prize Winner and will receive $1,000 in cash and a publishing deal with Apateon Press. Each of the six categories will also award a Gold winner, who receives $500, and a Silver winner, who receives $100, along with official recognition from the Prompty Awards.
How to Enter
Writers may submit AI-generated or AI-assisted fiction, including novels and novellas. The early bird deadline is November 1, 2026, with an application fee of $25. The final submission deadline is December 31, 2026, with an application fee of $40. Winners will be announced on April 1, 2027.
